Bowl & Berry created a true Pacific Northwest original based on the popular acai bowl. The bowl consists of a thick blend of Northwest mixed berries, topped with fresh granola, raw honey, and adorned with a variety of fresh fruits.
When I joined as a part-time freelancer, the brand already had a loyal customer base. Because of this, I had to learn how things were done so that people wouldn't be confused when I took over. I wanted to create content that felt fresh and familiar at the same time.
Bowl & Berry's original designer did an excellent job of leaving a brand guideline, and my current full-time role at an agency gave me plenty of experience working with existing brands. Adapting to and making the B&B brand my own was simple and straightforward.
Essentially, this position involved working with management to finalize promotions and create content for print and social media. I learned how to work remotely and set social life aside for work.
Product material and marketing content for social media.
Black Onyx was our first promotion to test a brand new seasonal berry blend. We had to create something that appealed to both new and existing customers during Halloween. With this promotion, all social media platforms were used, email blasts were sent out and physical signage was printed. It was an instant success and the template for future promotions.
Following the hit of the Black Onyx in the fall which tried all new flavors, the Piña Colada bowl was a twist on the summer favorite with tasty pineapple and coconut toppings. In person this bowl doesn't look anywhere as good as it tastes. My aim was to create an image of cool & refreshing by incorporating vibrant summer colors into the artwork.
In all the years I have worked with designers, Michael has been one of my favorites. As a designer, Michael listens to what we want, and delivers exactly what we need, and on time too (which is a breath of relief for us). He also understands how to communicate, relate, and offer suggestions when necessary.
Despite spending most of my time at Bowl & Berry on signage and social media, there were several key lessons I could apply anywhere. Holding, developing, and strengthening relationships can change everything. From business to customer, manager to employee, and freelancer to business, it's imperative not to let these connections falter.
As a fresh freelancer, the main lesson here was time management, since I needed to learn how to manage my time remotely and set social life aside when working on promotions and creating content for print and social media.
They are finicky, and ink is really expensive.
